Bear Kills Camper in North Carolina

Hikers found a man’s remains scattered near a campsite in the North Carolina portion of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Accoridng to park rangers the hikers found an unoccupied tent Friday and what appeared to be human remains scattered across a nearby creek, “and a bear scavenging in the area.” Rangers arrived at the campsite shortly after midnight and confirmed the report of a deceased adult male. They also saw a bear “actively scavenging on the remains.” The bear was euthanized by wildlife officers. The victim’s name was not released, but authorities said he was from out of state.
